ABOUT ME

With my camera, I embark on exhilarating adventures, eagerly seeking out hidden treasures tucked away within the vast and breathtaking landscape.

Exploring the Dartmoor Landscape. Widgery Cross, Brat Tor

My home county of Devon, UK provides diverse landscapes that offer me an endless playground to explore and capture.  I find solace in the untamed beauty of Dartmoor, and it is here that I often find myself wandering, hiking across rugged terrain, and following broken paths from one enchanting location to another. A one-hour stroll frequently turns into a half-day stomp:  There's always something in the distance that catches my eye.

While the photograph preserves the visual memory, it is the experience of finding the scene and immersing myself in the mood that energises me.

MY PHOTOGRAPHIC STYLE

I am captivated by that delicate balance between the grandeur of the environment and the often overlooked beauty found within it.  This is likely why I frequently go for slightly longer focal lengths.  The approach reflects my curiosity and yearning to uncover the treasures that exist within the wider landscape. It invites viewers to look closer, to venture beyond the obvious and discover the fascinating details that reward those who explore.

Over the years, I've found an increasing preference for square format.  It prompts me to consider how different subjects fit together naturally, how their shapes and lines interplay, and how they contribute to the overall image.  When successful, this draws attention not only to the individual beauty of each subject, but also to the relationships they form within the frame.

I'm still learning to be disciplined and think about those relationships before raising my camera.  A tricky skill, since what caught your eye draws you in and the mild panic of missing that fleeting moment of great light takes over.
